Abstract Aim: People with Parkinson's disease constantly demonstrate low levels of physical activity, which is why dance has become increasingly important for the treatment of the disease. This study aimed to analyze the influence of binary and quaternary rhythm on fatigue, sleep, and daytime sleepiness in individuals with Parkinson's disease. Methods: 31 individuals participated in this randomized clinical trial with a mean age of 66.6 ± 10.2 years, 71% were male and 29% were female, allocated into two groups, binary and quaternary, where they participated in different dance interventions lasting 12 weeks. A questionnaire was applied including personal and clinical information; Mental State Mini-Examination (MMSE), Hoehn and Yahr (H&Y), Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), Sleep Scale for Parkinson's Disease (PDSS), and Daytime Sleepiness Epworth Scale (ESS). Results: The groups that participated in binary rhythm classes showed improvement in sleep quality and daytime sleepiness after 12 weeks of intervention. However, no significant differences were found in the group that participated in the quaternary rhythm classes. Moreover, it was noted that the binary group managed to raise the heart rate during the 12 weeks of intervention, given that these results were not obtained in the quaternary group. Conclusion: The results showed the effectiveness of binary rhythm on non-motor symptoms and heart rate increase in individuals with Parkinson's disease. Thus, it is concluded that the binary rhythm was more effective than the quaternary rhythm.

Resumo Fundamentos: Novos protocolos aplicados na reabilitação da doença de Parkinson possibilitam diferentes estratégias de atuação para profissionais de saúde, além de um novo leque de atividades para estes indivíduos. Entretanto, não se encontrou na literatura qualquer protocolo de samba com prescrição de atividades validado para esta população. Objetivo: O objetivo foi verificar a viabilidade de um protocolo de samba brasileiro em indivíduos com doença de Parkinson. Métodos: Vinte participantes, com idade média de 66,4±10,7 anos, com diagnóstico de doença de Parkinson idiopática divididos em: grupo experimental que recebeu a intervenção das aulas de dança - samba brasileiro (10 indivíduos); e grupo controle que manteve as suas atividades rotineiras (10 indivíduos). Para a coleta dos dados foi utilizado um questionário dividido: Informações Gerais; Escala de estágios de Incapacidade; Equilíbrio e Qualidade de Vida. Resultados: Durante a realização das aulas, não houve quedas, todas as atividades de dança aderiram aos detalhes das etapas do protocolo, sem quaisquer alterações, e os pacientes completaram, em média, 82,7% das atividades. Após 12 semanas, o grupo experimental apresentou melhoras no escore global da escala UPDRS, em atividades de vida diária e no exame motor. Houve também melhora nos escores de equilíbrio e no domínio de mobilidade da qualidade de vida do grupo experimental. Conclusão: A utilização de um protocolo de samba para indivíduos com doença de Parkinson mostrou-se viável, por sua característica segura e prazerosa, e por apresentar benefícios físicos suficientes para combinação com o tratamento medicamentoso. Houve também benefícios nas relações sociais e como uma possível ferramenta de reabilitação em indivíduos com a doença de Parkinson.

Abstract Background: New protocols applied in the rehabilitation of Parkinson's disease enable different action strategies for health professionals, as well as a new range of activities for these individuals. However, no valid samba protocol with activity prescription for this population was found in the literature. Objective: To investigate the feasibility of a Brazilian samba protocol in individuals with Parkinson's disease. Methods: Twenty participants, mean age of 66.4±10.7 years, diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinson 's disease, divided into: experimental group that received the intervention of Brazilian samba dance classes (10 individuals); and control group that maintained their routine activities (10 individuals). For data collection, a divided questionnaire was used: General Information; Disability stages scale; Balance and Quality of Life. Results: During class implementation, there were no falls, as all dance activities adhered to the details of the protocol steps without any changes. On average, patients completed 82.7% of activities. After 12 weeks, the experimental group had improvements in the UPDRS global score, in daily activities, and on motor examination. There was also improvement in balance scores and in the mobility domain of the quality of life in the experimental group. Conclusion: The samba protocol seems to be feasible and safe for patients with PD. Moreover, it has pleasant characteristics and offers sufficient physical benefits for combination with drug treatment. There were also benefits in social relationships and as a possible rehabilitation tool in individuals with Parkinson's disease.

A Doença de Charcot-Marie-Tooth (DCMT) é a neuropatia periférica hereditária mais comum em seres humanos, apresentando incidência de 1:2.500 pessoas. A fraqueza distal crural na DCMT provoca inúmeras alterações na marcha, como, por exemplo, na velocidade, no comprimento, na largura e cadência dos passos. Vários recursos em reabilitação têm sido propostos para gerenciar os problemas de deambulação, dentre eles, destaca-se a utilização de órteses. O objetivo deste estudo é apresentar e discutir os resultados de estudos sobre os efeitos da utilização de órteses nos padrões de marcha na DCMT. Neste estudo foi utilizada atualização da literatura através das principais bases de dados nacionais/internacionais (SciELO, LILACS e MEDLINE), publicados entre os anos de 2006-2012. O tratamento da DCMT consiste em fisioterapia e utilização de equipamentos de assistência, visto que ainda não há fármacos ou terapia gênica capaz de atenuar os danos clínicos e funcionais. Tal associação busca maximizar a função e melhorar a qualidade de vida desses pacientes, na tentativa de evitar agravos adicionais relativos à incapacidade física. A partir de atualização de literatura é possível concluir que existe consenso sobre a utilização de órteses nos membros inferiores para promover a estabilização das articulações do tornozelo e um padrão de deambulação mais funcional, evitando sinergias inadequadas de movimento e atenuando o risco de quedas.

Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease is the most common hereditary peripheral neuropathy in humans, presenting incidence of 1:2.500 people. The distal crural weakness of the CMT causes numerous gait impairment changes, for example, velocity, length, width and cadence of the steps. Several rehabilitation resources have been proposed to manage the walking problems, among them, the use of orthoses is highlighted. The objective of this study was to present and discuss the results of studies on the effects of orthotic uses in CMT gait patterns. In this study it was used to literature update through major national/international databases (SciELO, LILACS and MEDLINE), published between the years 2006-2012. The CMT treatment consisted of physical therapy and using of assistive equipment, since there are no drugs or gene therapy able to attenuate the clinical and functional damages. This association seeks to maximize the function and improve life quality of these patients in an attempt to prevent additional injuries related to physical disability. From literature update it is possible to conclude that there is a consensus on the use of lower limb orthoses to promote the stabilization of the ankle articulation and a more functional pattern of walking, avoiding inadequate synergy of movement and reducing the risk of falls.

O presente trabalho tem por objetivo apresentar e discutir os resultados de uma experiência de atividade de aprendizagem, a qual utilizou filmes do circuito comercial que abordam temas relacionados às ciências neurológicas. Participaram do grupo de discussão estudantes dos seguintes cursos: Artes (dois), Fisioterapia (dez), Gestão Imobiliária (um) e Saúde Coletiva (dois), além de um membro da comunidade externa e dois docentes. Seis filmes foram usados como recurso de favorecimento da aprendizagem e de estímulo para discussões e construção do raciocínio crítico e contextualizado baseado na exposição de situações da vida. Os participantes do grupo escreveram, coletivamente, a sinopse dos filmes projetados e selecionaram palavras-chave que refletissem o conteúdo explorado nas discussões pós-filme. As sinopses frequentemente se referiram à doença, enquanto as palavras-chave fizeram referência aos aspectos sociais e éticos envolvidos. Os participantes fizeram uma avaliação das atividades pedagógicas desenvolvidas durante o semestre, apontando pontos positivos, negativos e sugestões. Com a análise desse material, é possível afirmar que a experiência docente baseada na projeção de filmes facilitou o estabelecimento de inter-relações e integrações disciplinares, propiciando a construção de um conhecimento contextualizado, favorecendo a formação de profissionais capazes de articular conhecimentos profissionais específicos com uma rede mais ampla de saberes envolvidos.

The purpose of this paper is to present and discuss results of a learning activity experience that used popular movies to address issues related to neurological sciences. Students from the following courses participated in the discussion group: Arts (two), Physical Therapy (ten), Property Management (one), Public Health (two), besides one individual from local community and two professors. Six movies were used as a learning support and stimulation to discussions and construction of contextualized and critical thinking, based on life histories. The individuals from this group wrote together the projected movies' plot and selected keywords that corresponded to the subject of the discussion after projection of the movies. The plots frequently mentioned aspects associated with disease, while the keywords mentioned social and ethical aspects. Besides, the individuals performed an assessment of the pedagogical activities carried out during the semester including positive and negative aspects and suggestions. From the analyses of this material, it is possible to assert that the professor experience based on the projection of movies promoted the establishment of disciplinary interrelations and integrations, providing a construction of contextualized knowledge favoring specific professional formation able to integrate specific professional knowledge associated with general knowledge network involved.

INTRODUÇÃO: O Setor Litoral da Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR), com seu Projeto Político-Pedagógico (PPP) inovador, baseado na Teoria da Complexidade, está finalizando o processo de implantação de sua primeira turma de Fisioterapia. OBJETIVOS: Comentar algumas das bases teóricas que sustentam tal projeto pedagógico, apresentando a experiência da construção coletiva de um PPP pautado em três eixos curriculares. METODOLOGIA: De caráter qualitativo e de cunho teórico-reflexivo. RESULTADOS: A construção do PPP resultou numa organização curricular em três eixos: Fundamentos Teórico-Práticos (FTP), Projetos de Aprendizagem (PA) e Interações Culturais e Humanísticas (ICH). Os FTP (aproximadamente 60% do currículo) compreendem módulos temáticos elaborados por equipe interdisciplinar de professores, contextualizados com a realidade do mundo do trabalho, aproximando-se dos princípios do Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) e atendendo às Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais (DCN). Nos PA, o estudante desenvolve projetos mediados por docentes, que envolvem necessariamente a tríade "ensino-pesquisa-extensão". Esses são imbricados à realidade do litoral paranaense, extensiva e/ou ampliada para outras comunidades. Já as ICH (20% do currículo) são espaços para a vivência de um diferencial na gênese do fisioterapeuta: uma formação pautada na complexidade do ser humano e na integração deste com o meio, pois são realizadas em conjunto com outros cursos e comunidade. CONSIDERAÇÕES FINAIS: Nessa trajetória, os estudantes que se desenvolvem pela UFPR já demonstram características diferenciadas, resultantes de práxis generalista, humanista, crítica e reflexiva, como preconizam as DCN. Esperamos que essa vivência proporcione articulação de saberes e práticas, formando profissionais qualificados, cidadãos conscientes e sensibilizados para a coletividade.

INTRODUCTION: UFPR Litoral with its innovative PPP (Political-Pedagogical Project), based on Complexity Theory, is finalizing the implementation of its first Physical Therapy graduating group. OBJECTIVES: To comment some of the theoretical basis which sustain the project, presenting the experience of PPP's collective construction process, focusing three curricular components. METODOLOGY: Qualitative, with a theoretical-reflexive approach. RESULTS: PPP's construction resulted in a curricular organization based in three componets: TPF (Theoretical and Practical Fundaments), LP (Learning Projects) and CHI (Cultural and Humanistic Interactions). TPF consists about 60% of the curriculum, comprehending thematic modules elaborated by interdisciplinary professors team, based on the contextualized situation of the profession reality outside the campus. All contents taught follow Brazillian national curricular guidance and national health system. The PA allows students to develop projects, mediated by professors involving the triad: teaching-research-extension. These are contextualized to the reality of Parana's coastal communities, and also extended or amplified to other communities. The CHI (consisting 20% of the curriculum) allows the future professionals to experience the complexity of human being and its integration to the surrounding environment, once they share experiences with other graduation courses and communities. CONCLUSIONS: Throughout all these processes, UFPR students demonstrate distinguished characteristics, that come from generalist, humanist, critical and reflexive praxis, as recommended by national curricular guidance. So we hope these experiences provide articulation of knowledge and practices, developing qualified professionals and conscious citizens who care for the collectivity.

O acidente vascular encefálico (AVE) pode reduzir a capacidade de realizar tarefas funcionais, limitar a independência e a qualidade de vida dos indivíduos. O trabalho apresentou dois objetivos: identificar o perfil epidemiológico dos sujeitos com hemiplegia no município de Diamantina, MG, e implementar uma ação conjunta entre a universidade e as autoridades locais para atendê-los. Dos 82 pacientes cadastrados nas unidades de Estratégia de Saúde da Família (ESF), 51 foram contatados em seus domicílios e entrevistados usando roteiro semi-estruturado. A média de idade foi 67,8 e o tempo de AVE, de 6,7 anos; 50% eram analfabetos e 41,2% mantinham-se com 1 salário mínimo por mês. Dentre os fatores de risco anteriores ao episódio de AVE, foram relatados dieta inadequada, inatividade física, tabagismo, etilismo e histórico de AVE paterno e/ou materno. Na época da pesquisa, 78,4% eram hipertensos; e 35,3% nunca tinham feito fisioterapia após o AVE. Assim, são propostas: inserção de fisioterapeutas nas unidades ESF, mudanças no modo de vida dos indivíduos, bem como melhorias ou modificações nas estratégias de políticas de saúde na região estudada.

Stroke can bring limitations to functional task performance, thus reducing patients' independence and quality of life. The purpose of this study was to draw the epidemiological profile of hemiparetic, stroke survivors in the city of Diamantina, MG, and to foster a joint program of action by the university and local public health service, in order to attend to these subjects. From 82 subjects registered at the Health Family Strategy units (HFS), 51 were contacted and interviewed, by using a semi-structured questionnaire. Their mean age was 67.8 years old, and time since onset of stroke, 6.7 years; 50% were illiterate and 41.2% lived on one monthly minimum wage. Reported risk factors prior to the stroke were unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, alcoholism, smoking, and family history of stroke (father or mother). At the time of the study 78.73% had high blood pressure and 35.29% had never undergone physiotherapy treatment after the stroke episode. Hence, inclusion of physical therapists in HFS, changes in subjects' lifestyle, and improvement or changes in local health policies are imperative.
